Pinched Nerve: Back Pain

For many individuals, it is a pinched nerve. Back pain can often be caused by a nerve that is being pinched in your spinal column or by a muscle elsewhere. Many people have back pain of some time, with it being one of the largest complaints of physical injury by patients talking to their doctors. Yet, what is causing that pain is the most important determination. For some, it will be problems with their spine, including slipped disks and painful muscle spasms. Other times, it's a pinched nerve that is causing the pain. When this is the case, treatment may be simple or more complex depending on what's really behind the pain.

If you have a pinched nerve, back and spinal areas should be considered. A pinched nerve is caused by a nerve receiving too much pressure due to one or more muscles or other elements pushing up against it. When the nerve becomes trapped or otherwise pressured, the pain can be shooting and extreme. Often, this pain comes from the spinal area. In your spine are disks that form a column. When one of these disks is inflamed, or "spills" the end result is that a nerve can become pinched in the process.

A pinched nerve in your back area can be caused by muscles, too. If a muscle is injured, this can cause the muscle to put too much pressure on the nerves located there. A pinched nerve is then the pain that you feel.

If you are suffering from any of these conditions, or think that you have a pinched nerve, back and spines areas can become inflamed and can worsen without treatment. Relieving the pain doesn't have to be complicated as medications and physical therapy may be all that's necessary. For most serious conditions, surgery can help to alleviate the pain of a pinched nerve.
